Library of Discovery

For my final year design project, my focus was to design a library in Nottingham that would allow people to come together in a safe and welcoming environment. As this was my final project for my undergraduate studies, I experimented with forms and trialled new things that I hadn’t done previously. My final design took shape through the three masses that have been shown, housing all of the things that are needed for the library as well as representing the conceptual ideas that I had from the start of the project. Design Thesis: As a person experiences the spaces in my building, they will never leave it knowing less than when they entered, but only educated from the opportunities to learn and grow. Reading and meditating allow you to open up new worlds that have never been experienced before and through enlightenment and self reflection you can learn a lot about what’s around you as well as learning about yourself. This is something that everybody should be able to experience with no prejudice about their background or who they are, and my library is a space for people to come together to feel their own sense of growth and freedom.
